The Lilac Neighborhood is nestled between Highland Park and Mt. Hope Cemetery. Notable houses include the Warner Castle with its Sunken Garden, Firehouse Number 3, and the Courser/Green House currently home to the Mercy Prayer Center. Most houses date between 1920 and 1930 and have fine details like Adams flooring and gumwood trim. The neighbors take pride in their gardens and have an annual plant sale on the Saturday after the Lilac Festival that allows us to share our plant material, common or rare, and raise money to support our activities. The Lilac Neighbors publish a newsletter several times a year, and have an annual Ice Cream Social to celebrate Neighborhood Night Out Against Crime. We have close ties to Highland Park, St. John's Home, the Azalea Neighbors and the May Street Block Club.
